Re: Does your Van have a name?

my 90 cargo's name is the "Surrey Slut" I come on the site after some time away and this is what I find! :yikes: The way I see it "slut" implies the van would be a female. My wife always referred to the Van as MR. Van. Reliable, strong, always there when you needed it, never a h...

Re: RS progress & new purchase

Well Reaper I don't know what to say. I look into the driveway and there is something missing. As we have discussed I couldn't be happier that you are the owner of my old van. I loved that thing for 13 years and it was time to see it go. I'm excited to see you take it to the next level with some mor...

Re: Pulley / Belt change?

I would replace the belt and the tensioner pulley. The pulley is cheap and I have replaced mine 2 times in 330 000km. The belt on my Honda Accord went at around 105,000km and it was squealing so badly I thought a bearing was gone on the tensioner or the AC. I replaced the belt and it was fine. It is...

Re: FUll HID conversion kit for 1990 Astro (now installed)

Ok so I just took the Van out for a little night test. The bulbs throw a lot of light and look great. One problem is the cheap lenses don't have a good spread pattern. I would not recommend these cheap housings. I think I will look for a quality housing with a diffuser that will give a good pattern....

Re: FUll HID conversion kit for 1990 Astro

Well I finally got off my a#$ and installed the HID's in the Van. Here are some pictures of the beginning, middle, and end. I have also put in some pics with one HID and one Sylvania "super white" high output sealed beam for comparison reasons. I will test them out at night and let you kno...

Re: weight of a stock astro or v8 I guess

I take my van over the scale at the local land fill quite often. With a 1/4 tank of fuel my 1990 cargo shorty is about 3900#. When I first got the Van It was completly empty with no pannels on the walls, no stereo, just an empty cargo. It weighed in at 3700# with no fuel.(right on E) This was on the...

Re: FUll HID conversion kit for 1990 Astro

Ok so the cost of the HID kit is $120.00, that is for the bulbs and ballasts. The projector lenses are $60.00 for the pair and come with H4 super white bulbs if you don't want to do the HID thing. The HID kit comes with a one year warranty. I have had a set of 6000K HID's in my car for a couple of y...

FUll HID conversion kit for 1990 Astro (now installed)

Just wanted to post pictures of the new HID kit I just got for the Van. I will do some, before and after pictures to see the difference. I will post the info on the kit later as my friend sells them and ships all over north america. So if you guys like the conversion I will be able to get you a good...

Re: car washing the engine

I have had good success using "Simple Green" and a normal garden hose. This does a great job cleaning and is not to bad for the environment. Always be careful using high pressure under the hood of a car. Often you get away with it but it only takes once to cost a bunch. There are many sens...

Re: Quick question... ECM compatability...

Find a good shop and get er built! If you have a shop you know do the work you can have the motor built to your spec and you will know what is in it. When you buy a runner you never really know. Or you could always buy a crate motor. They often offer the best value. Soo many choices. Man I wan't to ...

Re: Quick question... ECM compatability...

I swapped in the 7747 computer on my 1990. I don't remember what the # was on the stock puter (was not a 7747) but the 7747 from the v8 I had swapped right in and I installed a new chip from TBIchips.com.
Van runs great and passes emission testing.

Re: New Carbon Tax

Actually it was 65 litres for $10.21. I filled my car and my van at 15.7 cents per litre. I agree that we need to do something about our carbon imprint. No one likes taxes, but that is life. I will be interested to see what they do with the money they collect. I actually think the tax is as fair as ...
