Wouldn't it be nice to own a van you could actually talk to the people in the rear seat at freeway speeds!
And 0 - 60 in 3.9 seconds. What a sweet van this would become.
Could even put photo cells on the roof for battery recharge.
Shall we dream on.

Re: Temp readings on a 98 AWD
Do you have an OBDII scanner hooked to a computer. It will tell the temperature.
When we had 15 degree weather here, my Safari was running at 190.
Sounds like a bad Tstat.

Re: Any EV Astro or Safari?
Just in dreaming mode: Imagine no transmission, engine, transfer case giving a drop of some1k pounds? Put NMh batteries where the gas tank is - perhaps several sets. Put a motor on each wheel. I wonder how many miles one could drive before needing a recharge. Would we have a winner? Ah, the dreams! ...

Any EV Astro or Safari?
Has anyone considered EV powering their van?
How about using a van instead of a Datsun?

I bet Peter's van can't bet this Datsun.

Re: Possible Astro/Safari replacement
Here I expose ya'll to a Demo or is that Rep solution and all I get is thumbs down takers. Guess I'll just have to stick with my 2002 Safari, 400 mile travel range, 18 highway, 15 pulling the trailer. Just think, with that electric Van, I could pull my trailer 15 miles before a recharge. At least I'...

Re: Choosing an OBD scan tool.
I bought an ELM 322 unit some 3 years or so ago. I used freeware software which allowed me to full codes and reset them. It did the job I needed. I paid some $70 for each of them. I've used the GM and ISO version. Were I to buy again, I would spend the $200 to get the "all in one" type wit...

Re: Rear Differential Oil Change
The picture did the trick. I live in a wetter but not a rusty climate. It shouldn't be that difficult to remove the plug other than possibly very tight.
Thanks to everyone.

Re: Rear Differential Oil Change
When I was under the van Monday, I felt all around the differential but didn't feel anything like a plug. I'll look again tomorrow. Thanks for the tip to remove the fill plug before pulling the pan.

Rear Differential Oil Change
The Front Differential was easy to change - just remove the plug to drain, replace the plug, remove the fill plug and fill to the top then replace the plug. The rear differential is another bird. There is no drain plug and no fill plug. What gives? Is this one of them things that must be stood "...

Re: Idler Arms
The question is:
How can I tell if they are bad? What are the symptoms?
When I replaced them on my Astro I used Moog which I will use again. The reason I replaced them was when the alignment shop said they were bad and wanted some $500 to do the job.

Re: How old are your tires ? Interesting video....
I just put new Michelin's on from Costco. They had a code of 2008 so they are a "fresh" batch of tires.
Wouldn't be a great move to purchase a set of tires that should be retired when just being placed into service.

Idler Arms
Idler Arms seems to be a "Big" issue with these vans. I've read that the stock idler arms are good for around 40k miles. Sometimes I'm wondering if replacing idler arms is just "The Thing To Do" on these vans. Question: How can I tell if my idler arms need replacing? What are the...

Re: What is the least aggressive shift kit?
I have a B&M electronic shift kit that I took off my 97 Astro before I sold it. The wires need to be attached to the ECU. I now have a 2002 Safari with Tow/Haul mode so I no longer need the B&M device.

I called the dealer who said that I needed a Fuel Rail Disconnect tool, so I went to Schucks and $8.65 later I had the tool in my hand.
