Oops . Got hungry and computer went to sleep on me.
I later fab'd a flexible duct to sit the A/C unit on top or strapped to the bumper and run the duct in the small sliding window the bear broke out the summer before.

Re: Window/portable AC unit for an Astro van?
When i found myself stranded in FL. helping some family i removed the rear window on one of the barn doors and hung a small window unit in its place.
I used it mostly when parked in the yard, but also ran it on a small generator.

Re: My camper build
i have been mostly living in my van about 3 or 4 years now;(haven't actually been home since July 31st 2006); and i find i can no longer put up with; the moving stuff around to make a bed, then trying to stash the bed, to get at my stuff. I have decided i am going to require a trailer to put necessi...

Re: NEW!! Official Donation and Thanks Thread
He hasn't been on since March 2nd so he must either be on vacation or be real busy. Give him a little time. There are no minimum posts before the ability to send PM's. When you go to your messages page, you can see if there are any unread messages in your outbox. If they are there he simply hasn't ...

Re: electric vs mechanical fan?
Got caught in a traffic jamb in Death Valley over the summer. Outside air temps topped out at 114. I could not keep van cooled even with no A/C. Ended up doing a bit of hiking and photography till sunset and traffic died. I was fully loaded and towing a loaded trailer, but she had never even got war...

Re: NEW!! Official Donation and Thanks Thread
Do you have to have a certain number of posts to send an PM?
I have sent two or three to "Justice" to ascertain info pertinent to making donations; but have not heard anything. Has he not been onsite for awhile?

Re: Prepping my 94 AWD Safari
After sitting i've had brake lines and fuel lines rust out and rupture when put back into service Rusted out brake lines is the one thing i replaced on the 91, after it sat in a field in TN for about 5 years. The 94 is a garaged California desert car so no rust anywhere. But probably brittle seals ...

Re: Possible alternator replacement....
Hey Man ! Is your accessory bracket made of steel or aluminum? I had an alternator failure in my 95, with the aluminum accessory brackets. Once I got to pulling out the old alternator, I noticed it wasnt tracking properly with the belt. It was sitting in the mount weird. After pulling it out, I saw...

Re: Possible alternator replacement....
VanGoGo, Sorry to hear that. I always had luck with them before, so i was hoping it was a Barstow thing. Maybe they have changed owners or something. Bad attitudes at the top always leads to bad people on the bottom. Thanks, JaxSPL; that gives me a start. i run a few extra batteries as well so i lik...

Re: What did you do to/with your van today?
Mostly what i did was to the trailer so i could move the trailer out of the garage so i could put the Safari in the garage.
Did put the front end on the jack stands and remove the doghouse so i can get at the engine.

Re: Prepping my 94 AWD Safari
After you do everything Dean suggested, do a lot of local driving and wait... Honestly, the worst thing for a vehicle is to sit unused. Even though parts might have low miles, a lack of use turns them brittle or seals fail or whatever. Exercise it for a few thousand miles and whatever survives, wil...

Re: Prepping my 94 AWD Safari
I have heard that the AWD vans have a frequent problem; with ( i believe it was the transfer case). Since i am putty my 94 back on the road, and this site seems to be the sorce of all info for the Astro/Safari vans; i thought i would see if there is anything you think i should take a closer look at....

Prepping my 94 AWD Safari
I have obviously been living in the graces of God since 2003. I recently accidentally hit the button that switches my digital trip meter over to odometer; and discovered i now have appx. 268K or 286K on my 91 rwd Astro. I got the van with 30 something thousand miles on it. loaded it up with a bed, f...

Re: Possible alternator replacement....
Read on another thread that it is a good ideal to r&r the idler bearing and tensioner bearing at the same time. 135K miles so are there any other common problem areas i may want to r&r while i have this other stuff out of the way. Probably do a couple hoses while i am at it just to make some...
