Re: '99 Safari Dutch Door Passenger Side Stuck Shut

The same thing happened to me before when I went skiing. When it gets very cold (and maybe the weatherstrip is a little damp) , the door freezes shut. On top of that, the cold makes the thin metal handle very brittle. In my case, it broke in my hand, so be careful. I've had three Safaris and one As...

Re: '99 Safari Dutch Door Passenger Side Stuck Shut

Now I just feel stupid. I got to thinking, and the problem just started with the sudden severe cold snap we just got (low teens overnight, highs in the low 20s), so I got to wondering if the cold may have stiffened the white lithium lube enough to cause the issue. I had taken the inside panel off to...

'99 Safari Dutch Door Passenger Side Stuck Shut

Help! My passenger side dutch door is stuck shut. The handle isn't broken, and the linkage is operating, but the latch itself doesn't trip to open it. Is there any way that I can trip it that I'm not seeing?

Re: Front Differential...What did it eat?

Well, I finally got the time, weather, and a second pair of hands, so this week I had to get back to my Astro. It took two old men one afternoon to get the old differential out (about 4hrs). We figured that taking the old one out first would establish a tool list, so going to the p&p we would be...

Re: Front Differential...What did it eat?

I thought about that, but I really prefer the 20.4mpg that I got with the 342 gear in my van to the 17.1mpg that I'm getting with the Jimmy.
There's a p&p nearby that typically has several Astros and Blazers, so come spring I'll go check what they have and make an executive decision.

Re: Front Differential...What did it eat?

Bummer! Checked the RPO codes and my Astro has 342 gears......the Jimmy is 373. I was kind of hoping it would have the differential that I need, but I guess I'm just not that lucky.

Re: Misfiring / cross firing

I just went through the same thing. Darned plastic distributor! A guy I know with a repair shop said that in order to time it perfectly he would put his Modis scanner on it (a timing light doesn't work right). Regardless of which tooth used the replacement distributor wouldn't get any closer than 17...

Re: Front Differential...What did it eat?

Thanks guys! Pretty much what I figured. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff67/Old_Longhair/Smilies/kickcan.gif With wind chills below 0°f and no garage to work in, I've decided to shelve the project 'til spring. Picked up a cheap '97 Jimmy to get through winter. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums...

Front Differential...What did it eat?

First, I want to say that I'm a total newb to AWD. New to me AWD made absolutely no noise until the passenger side front wheel locked up at low speed turning into a driveway. I stopped and got out to see if there was a visible reason. Nope. No leaks/drips, no CV boot tears. Got back in and it was fi...

Another Newb

Hello, my name is Rick, and I have an Astro/Safari problem. :partyman: I actually have two non-functional vans right now, and I'm going to look at a useable one tomorrow. It's quite a tale, but the bottom line is that I'm poor, old, and have to be able to carry tools to work my trade. I've found tha...
