Re: 2004 Astro AWD Build: Colorado Camper Van Pop Top

Just curious SG, did CC fabricate their own top for your popper, or was it a donor top? I’ve been kicking around the idea of possibly doing my own and keep seeing some decent tops at the pick n pull here. Your rig looks great👍🏻

Re: How to wire up a NP 236 in place of a 136.

Been a minute or two since I last visited this thread, but glad to see there’s still interest in the conversion. Congrats to anyone that has been successful with the conversion. Mine has been trouble free since the conversion and have since installed an S10 front axle with axle disconnect. I use a m...

Re: S-10 axle swap??

When I did my swap I backed the pinion nut off and swapped it over to Safari style. Give it a shot, maybe there is more than one way to skin a cat I'm thinking I will give it a go. My only concern with swapping yokes would be the difficulty in accessing the crush sleeve to replace with a new one. T...

S-10 axle swap??

The drive shaft yokes between the two are different, but the u-joints appear to be the same size. Is there any reason t...

Re: Miss Safari 2003

Congrats on the aquistion \:D/ 3.73's eh? Lucky lucky. Not the most popular option. I swapped my rear 3.42's out for 3.73's. Much improved acceleration with my 255 BFG's. Picked up a 3.73 ZR2 front axle cheap, but the housings are cracked. Gears are good tho. Gonna get an S10 front axle and swap the...

Re: Non-OEM Axle Swaps, Revisited

I know this is an old and probably dead post, but did you ever look at the 6 lug Silverado axles from day ‘03 to ‘06 ish? I did some junk jard sleuthing myself this week and here’s what I came up with. Outside leaf spring to outside leaf on the Silverado is 51 and 1/8”. The Astro van is roughly 52 a...

Re: NP236/246 hybrid build

So did you have to swap the 236 front output shaft onto the 246 planetary? Sorry I missed this from December. But the answer is yes. The planetaries are the same dimensions between the 236 and 246. There are 2 versions of the 246. One is used in the lighter V8 setups and use a 4 pinion planetary. T...

Re: How to wire up a NP 236 in place of a 136.

It lives!! The transfer case is now shifting into all 4 modes and has been driven on very soft sand. I am having a shifting problem in 4L. The transmission does not seem to want to shift out of 1st gear, it does on some occasions but not as it should. Progress but still not completely rite. YAY!! F...

Re: How to wire up a NP 236 in place of a 136.

Ryan, unfortunately that later model switch is wired up differently than what you were using. It will work, as I had a later model blazer switch originally, but for some strange reason, GM threw a curve ball on the wiring. I'm outta town right now, but believe I have the wiring diagram your asking a...

Re: How to wire up a NP 236 in place of a 136.

Just to throw this out here, for those that may be floor testing all this before transferring into your van, make sure you leave the encoder motor ATTACHED to the case. If you apply power and try to actuate the encoder motor OFF OF THE CASE, toss it. Its now trashed. The hall effect switch plate ins...

Re: How to wire up a NP 236 in place of a 136.

Wait are you saying that once you connected F7 on the TCCM to the VCM (thing in board of battery underhood) that 4lo started working?? Trip south, The wire from the TCCM to the VCM, PCM, ECM, is only to correct the transmission shift points when in 4LO. Mine shifted into 4LO WITHOUT this wire being...

Re: How to wire up a NP 236 in place of a 136.

SG, I always leave mine in 2WD on dry roads, and switch to 4WD auto if I get caught in rain. This can be done on the fly with no issues or adverse effects on any of the system.

Re: How to wire up a NP 236 in place of a 136.

Racrx7 - I kind of understand the information highlighted in red above but am a little confused because I don't see any mention of adding wires to the PCM in the original documentation. Could you tell me where this fits in? SG, that wire needs to be connected from the TCCM to the ECM, (or PCM, depe...
