By the way, don't do this ... mixing stainless steel and aluminum. Apparently this is a no-no in the boating world, because it causes bad galvanic corrosion.

check where the cable is mounted to the transmission tailpiece. Make sure it's secure, and adjusted to the proper depth.

Codes 12 and 14 aren't trouble codes, but may appear to indicate normal operation.

If it's a short in the lamp circuit, then you need get a multimeter to measure and find it. You'll need a wiring diagram, and possibly remove the cluster. Maybe the bulb is just starting to fail.
