Re: Hello... and a swap question
Depending on the angle of the driveshaft if there would be a problem or not, but I already have another axle ready to go. The fuel tank is a non issue too, I have a fuel cell waiting to go in. There will not be too much left original under astro from the cross member back. I have been planning this ...

Re: Hello... and a swap question
Back again... Have not got anything done, between the kids football and my laziness, I have not got anything done. Due to where I live ( the ozark mountains) I wanted to built a van that is fun to drive, keep in mind I know the astro is no sports car, but it would be fun to be a little more aggressi...

Re: Hello... and a swap question
Well my project is one of dealing with what i got parts wise. I think the 4x4 astro idea is awesome... but i can't get the thought of my wife laying a golden egg if i start ripping apart the blazer in the front yard too :-k . So the dodge is going in, but i still have the 4x4 option with that too, t...

Re: Hello... and a swap question
Yes the GM V8 swap requires moving the engine forward about 4". This way the tranny lines up in the same location. turbo 4000 and 305? Never heard of them...Are you talking about a GM turbo 400 (TH400) and an old cast iron gear driven 205 transfer case? If so then yes they will be supported bu...

Re: Hello... and a swap question
I finally got around to doing a test fit, and i have some issues with the motor mounts. I don't think I can use anything from the mounts that were there (from the 4.3). So I will have to cut them off and build from the crossmember, shouldn't be a big deal. My question is on a chevy v8 do you have to...

4x4 pics, and expedition vehicals
I would like to see some pics of astro 4x4's. I myself am looking for some pictures of an astro that was in the four wheeler top truck challenge a few years ago. I don't know much about it besides it was white, flexed a lot, and the guy was from Canada. It appears that a lot of people are getting in...

Re: Hello... and a swap question
ok thanks, so there would not be a problem it I centered the motor and built the motor mount maybe an inch lower for a better center of gravity... or should I just save my time and place the motor where it would normally be?

Re: Hello... and a swap question
I was outside looking at the motor mounts, is there a reason why the motor is offset to the right?

Re: Hello... and a swap question
I thought Dodge (my motor) stood for Drops Oil Drips Grease Everywhere. I did a rear good job of that because I didn't think to drain the tranny fluid. Found a nice hole in the side of the oil pan, about the size of a dollar. Here's a few photo's http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd315/bulldozer_19...

And so it begins...
Well I kept trying to talk myself out of pulling the motor/tranny/frame out... but my neighbor was gung ho to start the task. Went pretty well and pulled everything out in about two hours. The only thing that bothered me was when I jacked the body up... I kept thinking to myself what the hell am I d...

Re: Hello... and a swap question
Welcome, Bulldozer. I like the idea of the Dodge 360/737 transplant, so that has my vote. A few years back, we had a member who grafted an Olds 403 into his Astro. To date, I believe that he's been the only one to swap in a non-Chevy V8 (I'm going to assume here that the LS series engine is conside...
