Accelerator / throttle cable replacement.
The throttle cable in my 95 Safari is fraying on the throttle body side (at least, could be even worse than what I can see). Right now the stickiness is just annoying, but it could result in something downright dangerous. It requires replacement. OE GM part number 15713092 has been discontinued and ...

Stuck odometer.
The mechanical odometer and trip meter on my 95 AWD Safari stopped working a few days after I bought it. It jumped from about 103K miles to all zeros and stopped. Speedometer continues to function normally. The previous owner claims the transmission was replaced just before I bought the van. He coul...

Hard starting once hot.
My 1995 AWD Safari starts almost instantaneously when cold, but re-starting after the engine has reached normal operating temperature is much more difficult. Idle is also much better upon cold start-up. Idle and throttle response after a hot start are rough for 10-30 seconds while the engine "c...

Re: 1995 Safari front differential-- NO DRAIN PLUG
Does yours look like this? Not my photo-borrowed from a post on the other site If not you will need to vacuum the fluid out. They make a hand pump vacuum for just such things Decided not to drill/tap a plug. Without seeing the inside of the case, there's just no way to determine its thickness or ho...

1995 Safari front differential-- NO DRAIN PLUG
Why a manufacturer would design an axle with no drain plug AND make it virtually impossible to insert a siphon tube is simply beyond me... I've seen several members recommend drilling and tapping their own drain plugs, but I can't find any photos or write-ups from anyone who has actually done it. I ...

Re: My first Safari: suggestions?
You could just have Midas or Auto zone guys hook up a OBD I store bought code reader. None of my local Autozone, Advance, etc-type places keep OBD1 scanners. Just OBD2. Only place I could find with a true OBD1/1.5 scanner was the Chevy dealership, and they refuse to scan the vehicle without writing...

Re: My first Safari: suggestions?
Nice Astro, Welcome to forum. For OBD 1, you can make a simple code reader from a metal paper clip. All you need to do is jumper pins A and B of the diagnostic D shape connector. Code 12 12 12. Means all OK, Code 34 34 34. Means faulty MAF mass air flow sensors, etc. The simple yellow light illumin...

Simplest fuel injected V8 install..?
I'm about to spend a winter in my hometown of Flint, MI (I've been living in GA since 2005), so I recently purchased a 95 AWD Safari to get me through the next six months of snow and slush. If I keep the van beyond the next year or so, I would like to swap in a smallblock of some sort backed by an N...

My first Safari: suggestions?
Vans of all makes and models have been in my family for generations. My dad owned two RWD Astros when I was a kid, a white 93 and a red 96. I just picked up my first, this 1995 AWD Safari: http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l355/viperject/IMG_1622_zpsmykyaivs.jpg http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l...
