This thread is gonna be for pics and a description of what you have towed or currently tow with your Astro or Safari. You must have the A/S in the pic! Include the dry weight, total(GVW) weight and the loaded weight(actual), also include the mileage you get towing and the configuration of your van (engine, tranny, gear ratio, tire size etc.) also include average tranny temps if you have them.

I will start:

We tow our pop-up camper: 2006 Jayco Select 12HW, 2750# dry and 3750# GVW I estimate our "normal" camping trip puts the camper right around 3500#. I get right at 9-10 mpg with the SPB, stock engine and tranny, 4.10 gears and 33" tires, Large tranny cooler and fan puts the tranny right around the 185 to 200 degree average running 60 - 70 mph in flats and hills. I tow in 3RD.

Another trailer I towed: trailer dry around 1800#, GVW 7000#, Jeep weighs 3500#, total weight around 5300#. Mileage was around 10 to 11 (IIRC), stock engine and tranny, 30" tires, 4.11 gears and electric cooling fans which were inadequate! Tranny temps went well above 250 degrees :holy: I was glad to be running Amsoil synthetic tranny fluid.

Well here we go. The best (and only) pic I have is this one. Our trailer is a 2001 Jayco 10V. I have never figured out the milage while towing or otherwise, so I can't tell that. Just a stock Safari, with some horrible gear ratio what I will have to look up.

This pic was taken before my 9" rear was installed. The truck's a bit more level now with the Tramper on.
Oh, and I also get around 11-12 mpg at 60-65 mph

here's mine

It is a 1977 Marquis with an OMC 190hp ford 302. It's been in the family since new. My cousin still has her sister boat, that was bought by my uncle. They are one off in serial numbers.

The weight is about 3500 lbs loaded. I got around 12 mpg pulling this last trip. This included some highway speeds of 75-80.

Helped my sister move and we had the trailer loaded, probably 2,000 - 2,500# as well as the rear of the van. Stock engine, tranny has a Transgo HD-2 shift kit, corvette servo and Amsoil synthetic fluid, 3.42 gears with Amsoil synthetic gear oil. ATC fuse is pulled for 2WD operation. Tranny never went above 160 degrees F measured at the test port. Averaged 15.15 mpg hand calc'd. Not too bad! \:D/

Ok we traded in the 2006 Jayco Select 12 HW for a 2007 Jayco JayFeather 232. We just towed it home today and Dean said it pulled ok. The engine temp was just about 210 and the tranny stayed at 180 with a monster tranny cooler installed. We ran about 60 - 65 on the interstate. Towed in 3rd all the way and the outside ambient temp was around 90 degrees F. Camper was around 4100 pounds.

I will get my turn pulling it to PA in August when Dean is towing the Jeep with the SPB.

My trailer began life as a 2 place Zieman jetski transporter, and then I modified it with custom made racks that allowed me to haul my modded 2.3 turbo dune buggy. I can swap back between towing 2 large jetskis and buggy hauler, so that I don`t have to own and store 2 trailers.

My astro has a modded V8 with Edelbrock MPFI, ported heads, roller cam & lifters, Doug Thorley Tri Y headers, MSD, built for towing torque. I have 3.73`s with an Auburn posi and get about 16-19 mpg while towing 1500 pounds, but I have never really clocked it accurately. I just know that I can blast up a 29 mile steep grade at 80 mph while towing, past all the semi trucks.

I also have zero problems towing my 5000 lbs 02 Malibu ski boat or my buddies 69 Charger or another friends 70 Mustang to and from the dragstrip, plus all tools and full gas tanks.

This is why I fitted a V8 into my Astro for the towing torque, back in `97
