R.I.P. T.Low you will be missed

If you have been on this site once or hundreds of times there is no question you you have seen the impact that T.Low has made in our little Astro community. He was the reason that I own an Astro, that I have a pop top, and that I converted to 4x4.

A bunch of years ago now Tom was diagnosed with ALS and it was clear to all the difficult path that was laid out ahead of him. Tom continued finding ways to have adventures in his van and there was even a video of him in his off road wheel chair.

The desire to know how he was doing lead me to do some research this morning and I found the following.

It is with great sorrow that I give this update. Our dear friend Tom Lowell gave up his fight with ALS on Wednesday, October 17 2018. He fought hard to stay here amongst his family and friends. He told me that spending time with us all was what sustained his life. When this page was first made Tom was so overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and loving comments from everyone. He had commented how it felt comforting like a warm blanket.
The last 4 years have been very tough on the Lowell family. We can't see what the future looks like for Jen and the girls, but we know it won't be easy. I would like to take that blanket and wrap Jen and the girls up and let them know how much we care. Perhaps lessen their financial burden so they can concentrate on healing after this terrible time. I never had the pleasure of meeting Tom but always felt that he was the great friend I never met!

I met Tom twice. The first time was before his diagnosis when he showed up at my door on a Sunday morning. He was in town visiting friends and decided to look me up before he left. I was happy he did! The second time was on a four wheeling trip where I was able to watch his van in action. He was in the very early stages of ALS then. Tom was an awesome guy from what I knew. I wasn't aware of the GoFundMe; I'll be sure to make a donation.

Sorry to read this.....happy to have been able to know Tom and help him with a few cosmetic pieces he needed years ago.

When I was in Washington visiting friends Tom invited me to come spend some time with him. It was a great visit. Jen was pregnant with Olivia. Tom had just been diagnosed with ALS. What a great memory. So sad to hear of his passing.

I have not been on the site much the last few years. Just busy with life in general. I met Tom a few times at some meetups we had here in Vancouver. Truly a top notch guy if there ever was one. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing he will be greatly missed.
