Engine surging and bucking.

Hi just bought a 1995 safari a few months ago and I’ve noticed when I’m driving on the freeway at a constant speed the engine seems to surge a small amount , I can feel it through t the accelerator pedal. It’s not really noticeable to any passengers but it’s defiantly there , exhaust smells like fuel a bit as well . It idles fine but when you get in the pedal it does lag a bit not super responsive. Any one else’s experience this issue? Oh it has 218,000 KMs on it so it not a spring chicken by any means but I live it!! Thanks in advance!!

When mine did that way back. It was the EGR.
