Speedometer not working 91 vandura

I have a 91 vandura with a 700R and speedometer isn't working, any suggestion?

check where the cable is mounted to the transmission tailpiece. Make sure it's secure, and adjusted to the proper depth.

I 2nd that (MountainMan's suggestion). It's probably a cable issue. In fact, my own speedometer is jumpy and kinda noisy and I need to remove the whole cable, grease it up and reinsert it. Hopefully my meter will begin to act right after that little procedure.
