Broken Hood Cable

Post by slantflat »

Hi everyone.

New guy here, have a 90 G20 Beauville. The hood release cable has broken and I need to get under the hood. Doesn't seem like there is any access from the outside to coax it open.

Also, I have an 84 parts van. Would the cable in it fit the 90? Are new cables available?

Thanks everyone.

Welcome to the site,
I just had the same problem on a '93 astro. I unbolted the hood hinges, then I was able to hold the back up w/ a couple blocks of 2x4. I was able to move the latch with a long rod that I welded a nail on the end to make a hook. It was a 3' long 1/2' x 1/8' .
If you look at the parts van latch you can determine what action you will need to perform or lever to push or pull to open it easiest. Keep in mind the hood needs a good spring to "pop" so it may take a second set of hands to lift while your playing with long sticks!
I can't say for sure if the '84 cable would fit but I looked at rock auto and did not see them for your van but found this- https://www.rockauto.com/en/tools/inter ... cable,1360
Good luck!

Thanks Wood. I don't have access to the hinges with the hood closed, but your 3' long rod gives me an idea. Perhaps I can take the doghouses off and reach the latch from behind. I'll give it a look.
