Blend door/damper locations, 2014 Express

Post by Dailydriver14 »

I'm having an on going issue with ac not getting as cold as it should. When the heater core lines are restricted(totally different discussion), the ac gets colder. Which leads me to believe that there is a damper issue letting in heat where it shouldn't be. Correct me if im barking up the wrong tree with this theory.
I've tried looking on the internet, but I cannot seem to find the damper locations/purpose. Is there somewhere I can get that information, or can someone provide me with the correct information.
Thank you.

Do I need to tear the whole dash apart to see if it's operating?

Is the temp control valve similar to the astro? temperature controlled by water flow? The astro used a vacuum controlled valve that often failed in many ways.
Many guys in the hotter climates simply installed a ball valve in the heater core inlet and closed it in the summer.

It seems some do and some don't. Mine heater core is open all the time and temperature is controlled with the blend door. I think some do have a bypass valve.

when you twist the temperature dial left and right does the temperature change?

HVAC is always a pain to get to on any vehicle. The saying goes that vehicle assembly starts with the heater core and then everything is built around it.

The temp does change with the temp control, heat works great. Installing a shut off was attempted and it did make the ac colder, but it caused the engine to overheat. I've looked into bypasses online, but they look very cheaply made.
