Standard Motor Product Spider

Post by andyrud »

Hi, I think I have to change out my Spider on my 2002 astro. I can only find ones that are made by STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS. Anybody know if they are any good? AND, do you have a better place to get one? I am only looking for quality, not price.
Thanks in advance,

Did you do tests to see if it's bad?

How come? I had no problem. Took 2 minutes and they seem to be well stocked

Eliminated any vacuum leak by smoke test, by propane test, by carb cleaner test. Changed distributer, plugs, wires, PCV valve, and a couple of other things. Xtool Scanner shows various cylinder intermittent misfires after an idle for a few seconds. As soon as any load is put on the engine all misfires stop and the engine runs great. I suspect the fuel regulator might be the problem or maybe the spider is the problem. It's driving me crazy. What test is available to test the Spider?

That kind of sounds like a timing issue. It may be over-advanced. (check retard with your scanner)

My distributer bolts in only one position. I know we used to time engines by turning the distributer to a different position. How would I retard the timing on my 2002 astro?

Special thanks for the info,

just words related to your problem. You don't enter computer code or anything that requires computer knowledge.

I went to all of these places and they don't any in stock. If I cant find an AC DELCO spider what other manufacturer would you use?
