Torque to ft/lb or torque to yield?

FSM says torque to yield, but insert that came with head bolt kit says torque to 65 ft/lb in three steps? What do you guys know? It's a Mahle bolt kit.

I don't know about that kit but I always torque to ft/lb. Even if there is a torque to yield spec. I've never had a problem.

I've just heard of torqueing the heads down by ft/lbs...in 3 steps. When doing mine the steps were 35, 45, and 65 ft/lbs and in a specific order.

I have never heard the term "torque to yield" come sombody give me a definition?
