R-22

Post by 89AstroDan »

What can R-22 be used for? A guy I know had his house repossessed and said if their's anything I wanted, grab it. There were 2 30# bottles of it. I didn't grab them but still can, I just didn't know what I could do with it.

I think R 22 is the gas used in home type air conditioners. Peter would know this.

R22 is indeed a refrigerant. It's used in a variety of air-conditioning and refrigeration applications, including appliance, construction, food processing (think Dairy ) and your friendly neighborhood supermarket. Its being phased out over the next 15 yrs or so just like R12 was, I don't believe its the right application for your astro,LOL

Yeah, Zamster's right about it being useless for your truck. And I believe the cut-off date for R-22 production is 2010. Not that it matters much, there are still bottles of R-12 around if someone really wants them.

Thanks guys, I didn't think it was anything I could use which is why I didn't grab it. Maybe I could retrofit the Astro as a driving deep freeze.

peter's right about r-12 availability... it's still out there, you just have to be a certified technician for a/c service in order to "legally" buy r-12.
