GM Engineers..... @#*&%@@#@!!!!!

Post by BLAZER »

I would love to kick some engineers tail , especially those that were there in the mid 90's ](*,)

The first pics is from the wife's 97 S10 4x4 blazer. I would imagine the AWD astros would be the same, had to unbolts and drop the fron diffy to get it out, took me 3 times longer than I had expected!!!
Second and third are my door handle, the old one came out in pieces, some of it lying n the bottom of door, new one from ebay fit okay, but rubs a little on window track....typical aftermarket part, but opens door.
Last pic...I finally pulled DRAC and moved jumpers. I guess they are pretty close, my speedo reads close to what the traffic is moving instead of being 10 mph too high.

I removed the door handle last week to see if I could repair, took maybe 15-20 mins, inlcuding the door panel removal. Probably the same to replace yesterday. It is a pain to get those nuts back on the handle studs, need dislocating joints.
I've been an under achiever this whole past week, that's about all I got done after being off for almost 2 weeks straight...stupid head cold/sore throat knocked me down good.

I'm feeling like an underachiever as well, all I got done was putting in a new blower for the heat. Of course I have the excuse of extra church services to plan because the Christmas and New Years, and I have a nasty chest cold with a dry cough that keeps me from getting a complete night's sleep. Even then, you kept yourself busy. What I really need to do is cap, rotor, plugs and maybe wires. I don't know if they have ever been done, and we are over 100000Km. The weather has been good enough for it.

should be required to own and do all the repair work on whatever they design, would serve them right......

I concur with the oil lines-removed them with the diff in place and installed the new ones without reinstalling the support clip-and remember engineers do not design GM cars accountants do.

A lot of truth in that. If you read S.A.E. papers written by GM engineers you get a feeling they know their stuff but just aren't allowed to get it into our hands.

15-20 minutes for the door handle!? You are so Pro ... took me WAY longer than that and I probably have smaller hands than you!
Our door handle OEM price here was just around $40 w/ tax so I just buy OEM. But boy when they told me they charge 2 hours to put it in and I flipped thinking it would be a 30 minute job and I might pay for the labour haha.
