had an alignment done today...

Post by LaGrasta »

I rotated the tires this past weekend and now the van pulls left, especially when you hit the brakes. It was fine before I rotated the tires, go figure. I have my wife take it in for an alignment and he goes for the sales pitch; ball joints, rubber brake line & tie rods.
I've serviced these very well and although they might be worn after 140k, they still have great life left, (they move just a little). The brake lines however, he tells me are plagued on Astro and Surburbans. I never heard that before. He says they deterieate. I've regularly flushed my brake fluid and by inspection they look great. Have you heard of this before? I can't remember ever changing rubber brake lines on a car from normal wear and tear.
He did the alignment, even without us saying yes to the upsale items. My wife drives the car home and tells me it still pulls left. UGH!

The inner rubber line on the A/S's tends to swell or break and pinch off the flow of fluid. But that's been common on every vehicle I've owned. The hard line between the gas tank and "frame" rail there tends to rot out quick on these tho because that spot holds moisture very very well.

Check the right side caliper. If it's pulling left hard and the wheel is moving left when it happens it's probably the right side caliper starting to seize.

Living in SoCal, moisture really is not a problem especially since I've flushed the brakes. At least twice that I can remember. I don't just mean bleed, but actually flushed.
I'll check it out, thanks. I'll report back...
