bad gas sort of............ok it was wheel cleaner HELP

Post by original_balzer »

So after some mis comunication alum cleaner got put in the gas tank of babe. It ran bad and now it wont start. The cleaner is a mild acid, we drained the tank and added fresh premium gasoline and changed the filter twice.

I am thinking the alum cleaner has ruined the injectors. Any thoughts recomendations or ridicule?

Not much to it really. I own 2 semis, a friend of my father gave him some alum cleaner acid in a red plastic gas can. My mother used a blue gas can to get gasoline in for the lawn mower. My baby bro was worried that babe might run out of gas before he got to the station.
Wrong can, wrong fluid, simple mistake.

NOW why the guy put acid in a gas can I can only guess it was the biggest plastic container he had available.

I have officially made it LAW nobody uses gas cans that still has fluid in it, around here to put gas in daily drivers. Or more simpley if they need to use a gas can they are to dump whatever is in it out and go get fresh gasoline.

OB,
I'm not sure of the year of your van, but I have a suggestion-- does the fuel pump still run and pressurize the fuel line? If your van is TBI (the type with the two injectors poised above the intake), can you see if the spray pattern is okay?
If both of the above are okay, I'd think that bad fuel was still in the lines.

If the pump runs, pop the line loose ahead of the filter & pump that crap out. Throw in 3 or 4 gallons of fresh gas, with several bottles of fuel system cleaner, and pump it out & dispose of all of it by giving it to your mother-in-law or some butt-head neighbor you don't care about.

Slap in a fresh filter & dump on about 5 more gallons of fresh gas & watch the injector pattern.... You may have a clogged filter, or toasted the pintle seals in the injectors or even the diaphragm in the pressure regulator.

You must flush out that crap as well as you can.

Liquid aluminum polish is a nasty PH factor, and compounds that don't like plastic or nitryl-based rubber very much.

Yea I drained the tank added new gas changed the filter and let it run for about 6 hours. The next day it would not start, changed the filter added more gas, still wont start. I used premeium gas and used a bottle of injector cleaner. Im fairly sure the injectors are messed up either that or the pressure reg. I may try to tae the dog house off today and have a look at the injectors, spray pattern (if any).

Its an 86 has the 2 injector throttle body that looks like a carb.

Hello again! The injectors where totally ate up and trashed. It caused rust witch flaked off and cloged EVERYTHING!

Good news is after almost 2 years I got a used throttle body and replaced the whole thing. It runs great again, and is used as an extra vehicle around the "compound".

Its on a 500+/- mile road trip currently. My mom took it to go see her parents and her brother and sisters.

It runs better than ever as it has had its tank cleaned several filter changes a new fuel pump and now a new/used throttle body.
