Rear view camera

Post by TechSys »

I am looking to install a rear view camera but having a little problem where to put it. Where is the best place on the back of the astro to put one, that'll give a lot of coverage?
Also, for those that have rearview cameras, what brand did you go with and the reason why you went with it.

it depends on the size of it... there are a few places you can mount it, I am going to assume it is a pinhole camera.

behind your rear bumper and drill a small hole and have it look through it (this is where some FedEx Astro's I built had it)

somewhere in the rear liscence bracket

The other place i have seen is up at the roof line near the third brake light aimed back and down... this location has great visibility but is hard to camoflauge the camera

It should have a wide view so no matter where you put it it should see pretty well... hook it up and have someone move it around while you watch the screen, and decide what works best for you

Now that our boy is walking, and has shown a great amount of interest in "car, car" having a rear view camera sounds like a good idea. Where would one get one?

I have installed one of these camera systems & the one that I installed was part of a bracket that screwed in to the license plate screws. Was not very noticeable & had a good pic angle.

Well, I've kinda of decided on what I want to do. Even though my van doesn't have the 3rd brake light, I am going to install one. It'll be at the top of the van (of course). The 3rd brake light will have the camera built into it, IF I can find the camera again.
May not look all that great when I get it done, but for this... functionality > looks.

thank you for your suggestions though

Mine is fitted in place of the rear lock barrel, the lock was never any good, and as I have remote locking also a bit redundant, still a work in progress as I make a number of further modifications to my van.
