Liittle Rock 87 Astro and 96 LT1

Post by wdmickjr »

i have just gotten my user name and password to this forum activated.
I am from Little Rock, AR and have gotten an Astro (87) and have a 96 LT1 from a Cadillac. I intend to swap the 4.3 with the LT1. I do not have a transmission for the LT1 yet.
At today's gas prices and forecasts to go as high as $4.50/gal before this summer is over, I am thinking of 255/70-15 rear tire and a gear ratio of about 3.55:1 or even taller (3.08:1).
But nevertheless, I would want to know if there is anyone whom has links/documentation to their similar swaps, with pictures a plus.
I swapped a 96 S-10 2.2LN2 with a 96 LT1, and have heard that the Astro swap is even easier.
Any help, like akin to hindsight is 20/20 vision, is greatly welcomed.
Thanks,
William

Welcome to your new home away from home. We've got a few members who have done this swap so hang on for them to reply. You'll be surprised.
Take care and have checkbook ready and don't keep receipts. :muhaha:

When I did my swap I kept it OBD 1 to keep it less complicated. It has been running fine for four years now. I drive it everyday to work'

yes. that has been considered. will i need the 4.3 wiring harness for the LT1? Some are telling me that i should have no problem with the 4.3's 700r4 (i have yet to see if that is a 700). i have just gotten the astro and the LT1 has been around for a while. do you have any pictures of your swap?
btw that Lt1 sitting in the bay looks really neat. what type of material did you use for for your heat barrier at the floorboard of the doghouse? something like and exhaust blanket?
