Overlands bumper brackets? What do they look like?

Post by stomp13 »

99 Astro AWD LS.

Im kicking around the idea of Overlands 2" inch lift. Since Im already pissing away good money on my 95 Bronco build (6inch lift, lockers, etc) Im looking to "pinch pennys". I already have some newish 29inch x 15 A/Ts tires that I got for free.

So the question is.... What does the Overland brackets look like? Is it something I can make with some steel I have already, instead of spending $100.00?

Thank you for your support :drinkers:

P.S. I know Im being a cheap f%ck, and I feel like a loser for asking but as I said Im pissing money else where

its not that bizarre of a question, i do not have an answer for you but i am sure if you have some decent fabricating skills you can make your own. i doubt you are the only one who has tried or considered it, lots of fabricators on this site!
99 SLT Safari AWD, G80/GT4 rear, Burgundy, 196,000 and counting (strictly AMSOIL) flowmaster 40series muffler no more cat, K&N Kone Filter, roll pan, 255/60/15 rubbers mounted to 15x8.5 inch American Racing Tailgunner wheels, billet grille, CB Radio, Alpine Deck, Shag carpet, the list goes on....
03 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, LB7 Duramax Diesel, 5 speed Allison Tranny, Crew Cab Long Bed, no muffler or cat, 4 inch turbo back and side piped. not too many other mods yet, also addicted to AMSOIL.

A bracket for a 2" lift is easy. 5" gets a bit more complicated, but it's still something relatively easy if you have the basics (MIG/Arc welder and something to cut the plates of steel).

I tried to find pics of mine, but I can't. It's simple. Imagine that the face of the bracket has to be moved up by the equivalent of your body lift. Cut the face off with a grinder/cut-off wheel and reweld where you want. Add steel flat bar to the sides to reinforce if you want. Done!

I just had one in my hand today, but I'm not sure if I can describe it to you.

I'm having the Overland Vans 2" lift kit installed professionally because I don't have the tools or the mad fabricating skillz to do it myself. I dropped my Astro and the kit off at the shop this afternoon.

I think the bracket is supposed to mount to the top of the frame, they're triangle-shaped boxes with bolt holes on adjacent sides, and the third side is open.

That help?

I built my own back in 2002 and they now reside on dunedog's van. Once you pull the front bumper mount off you will see how to fab it up. Lockdoc and I also made a set for his van with the 4.25" body lift.

Here's Lockdoc throwing some paint on the finished mount.

Here's a pic of the bumper moved up with the 2" subframe/body lift. I then got a piece of heavy flat stock, layed it behind the two holes, marked them, then moved it up and aligned bottom mark in top hole of bracket, then marked both again to get a set of three holes. I then bolted the flat stock on outside of bracket using all three hole spanning both the bracket and frame horn.

i just did the same as blazer did tonight. it just seemed to be the easiest fastest solution, probably not the strongest though (in a crash). i plan on building a steel offroad style bumper before winter.

stomp13,

T.Low's photo shows the OLV bumper bracket. I was describing some other piece that comes with the kit.

Shows you what I know.
