Volksfest 2009 in Moxee, WA - Pics!
Last Sunday my wife, daughter and I went out to Volksfest 2009 in Moxee, WA. We got there pretty early and lots of VWs were still rolling in.
In fact, as we parked, this group pulled in.
Shadows made it tough for taking good pics....
How can you not like this one?!
Roadster version.
I only saw two Karmen Gia's when I was there. Too bad as I have a soft spot since my grandparents owned one forever.
I had no problem convincing my wife to go with me to this as she has a soft spot for Bugs & Busses. A Bug was her first car and her family owned several Busses when she grew up.
Pretty good turnout of Things. (I'd like to have an off-road Thing myself!)
My little hippy girl wanted in on the action...
Several slammed busses.
The burgandy Bug was one of my favorites. Unfortunately my pic from the front was fuzzy. Gotta love them Baja Bugs!!
A little fuzzy, but here's this one before it entered the show.
There were some pretty nice VWs that stayed in the parking lot. (OK, so maybe this isn't pretty, but it sure looks functional!)
There were lots of late model 'tuners' there too, but who cares!

I never get tired of looking at old bugs. I'd love to get a hold of a Thing as well. Great pics!

Wow, that's pretty cool. I went to volksfest in Augsburg Germany, but that was a little different.

Great photos. I had a VW Beetle in the 70s, and a Type III Fastback in the 80s, which I traded for . . . a Chevy Van! Which I sold and bought a 1980 Impala, an old police car, god that thing was fast . . .Shadows made it tough for taking good pics....

Great pics, thanks. I just finished restoring a 70 sedan. Those VW's are still a great car.

Thanks Zam!astrozam wrote:Here you go Matt...sorry no interior pics.
Long after my grandfather passed away, when my grandmother needed to be moved into a care facility (2004-ish), my mom offered me their Karmen Ghia. I had full intentions of taking it, but with other things going on in my life (read that as TOO MANY OTHER PROJECTS and not enough cash), I didn't think I could give it the care it needed. Not only that, but while I like the looks of the Ghia, and have a fond rememberance, my dream VW has always been a functional Baja Bug.
I'm not sure I made the right decision... #-o but the Ghia did end up going to a VW enthusiast.
It was seeing the response from your post that made me think to post my pics! (I'd posted them on our local 'Yakima Valley Truck Club' message board under the show coverage, so it was easy to repost them here.)Smiliesafari wrote:Great pics, thanks. Great pics, Matt. Looks like a good time. Those are cool cars, even though they're not on my list. But come to think of it, until this time last year, either was an Astro van.

that brings back memories. too cool. I wish I still had my '68 bug. maybe one of these days I'll get another one.
'89 Astro, 4.3L, TBI. Minor intake and exhaust mods. Rebuilt 700R4 trans (by me). Corvette servo, 0.5" boost valve, police grade 1-2 accumulator spring (shifts fast and solid). B&M stacked plate trans cooler. Bilstein shocks. Belltech sway bars front and back. New head unit, speakers and subwoofer. Needs paint and a new headliner.
