Jim,
This should be a very interesting project you have on the balance of front to rear brakes. The wt of the van(which you have changed)and the wt transfer during hard braking vs normal braking + it being a AWD,should present some challenges that would be very interesting to see you work out.I am sure you will find the right answers and I will be watching the thread to see what they are going to be. =D> =D>

chemist, May I ask why your brakes failed inspection? Was it for pads only, or did the rotors fail also? How much did the rear brake job with rotors and pads set you back? Have you done the same to the front? If yes, what was the cost of the fronts parts? What type/brand of rotors/pads did you use? Did you resurface the rotors? Thanks, Jim

Hey Jim. They dinged me for pads and rotors the whole way around--they said the pads had excessive wear and thought the corrosion on the edges of the rotors was too much. Regardless of whether i disagreed, i did the work. What else can you do... When i got it all back together, i ended up replacing the passenger rear caliper because it froze on me ](*,)

The pads and rotors were overpriced at my local Advance Auto but i wanted the inspection done, so i dealt with the prices, and got the lower end stuff--for the life of me i can't remember what i paid. If you're doing this without a time crunch, go to http://www.rockauto.com/ and pay less for the parts you want.
