Oil filler cap

Post by afsigma21 »

My Oil filler cap keeps coming off. Since my last oil change, going on 25oo miles ago, the oil cap has come off twice.

Anytime I have gone under the hood to look at something, or check the oil (since it is a fairly new engine, I am watching close) the oil cap is off. Luckily it has fallen someplace where it stuck and I was able to put it back on. Eventually it is going to fall into the fan or simply get lost.

Anyone have this before?
Any suggestions?

Maybe just worn out. It's not a real high end part. Why not just replace it? \:D/

You can find a replacement at any auto parts store for peanuts.

I had planned to replace it. With this group you never know when the problem is going to have an answer like;

"Oh that is a common issue, just do this: <insert procedure>"

So I was just making sure there was not something else. I cant imagine how an oil cap wears out.

I went to the parts store and picked one up for $10, had not seen the 710 post though.

The parts guy asked me "Oh, so you need the 710?" and I did not get it, had never heard it, he was nice enough to explain it :)

New cap fit tighter, sometimes the simplest thing is all you need.
