Difference between 4L60E in Chevy V8 truck and Astro 4L60E?

Post by chemist »

Dumb question. Is there a difference between the 4L60E in a Chevy V8 truck and those found in our Astros? People on ebay are saying the ones out of Yukon and 1500 only fit those specific size V8 engines...

Previous Vans: 1998 Astro, AWD, 138K mi; traded on 2003 Chevy Astro, AWD, 125K mi; traded on
2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 WT, 4x4, ext, long box
2007 Chevy Cobalt
1998 Maza MPV (180K mi and in need of PA inspection--only paid $500!)

Needed: a Gen 2 Astro project vehicle...

I don't believe there is any difference. My guess if any, would be the tail shaft which is easily swapped if need be.

I'm sure Locdoc and maybe others have the best answer, but I'd guess it would be the torque converter and maybe valve body that would be set up differently. I know lots of folks use the stock V-6 transmissions behind their V-8 swaps with good results. I'm not sure if it will work in reverse though.

Just a question I have...Is there a difference in the bell housing mount bolts between the 4.3 and the new LSx series 4.8L and 5.3L engines?
Current rides:
2013 Toyota Tundra DC 4x4
2008 Dodge Nitro 4x4
2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S Special Edition

Mileage spreadsheet

Vans owned:
1986 Safari 2.5L 4 speed manual - scrapped
1995 Astro 2WD conversion 4.11 posi, shift kit, DHC rock rails - sold to Skippy
1998 Astro 4x4 D44, D60, NP231, full hydraulic system with 9k# Milemarker winch and snow plow - sold to Lockdoc
2003 Astro AWD all stock - traded for a 3/4 ton truck
2005 AWD, 4.10's - sold to skippy

Yes, the ls series motors use the same 6 bolts, but add a seventh at the top of the bellhousing. This is also the case for the duramax diesel engines.
