For you younger folks,,sorry you missed the tire smoke of all the hot cars built in garages around the country,,many with no sponsers,,just long nights, little money and borrowing all the parts and help you could find.
Here's local Evergreen old time racer, Aubrey Padget with his Chevy "Big Iron" C/G. If you'll read the article you'll find he's still running down that 1/4 mile at 72 years of age. This is Big Iron III, the first was bought by Ken Stabler, football great, #2 burned in a barn fire a couple of years ago. He now races Big Iron III.

As a kid,,it was a thrill to see this guy run the strips around south Alabama back in the day.
