Long time return, a few cylinder head questions

Post by 91AWDAstro »

It's been a long while for me to login and say hi to everyone. Sorry I've been away, hope everyone is doing well. I finally got around to pulling the head off my motor which I had cracked a valve spring. To make a long story short, due to the 480 lift of my cam the rocker studs were working their way out and I was at the limit of max lift anyway without machining the heads. Looking back I should have installed the 0.050 inch keepers for added clearance.

Oh well live and learn, at least there was no catastrophic engine damage. Now instead of reworking the early swirly heads I'm considering on picking up a set of vortec heads and the matching TBI intake. Haven't looked into it, but does anyone know if you need different lenght head bolts for the vortecs? I don't think you do.

Oh of course I'll be getting the vortec's reworked with screw in studs and modified to allow for the cam lift clearance.
