I had a '93 that the TCC solonoid failed on. I replaced it by dropping the pan and although I don't remember it exactly, it was pretty easy. I think it was one or two small bolts and splice two wires, but could be wrong. I do seem to remember getting some kind of code form the SES light.
The tcc on my '94 that I drive now unlocks at closed throttle and the re-engages when you re-apply the accellerator. You can hear and feel it, although it is subtle. Kind of like a halfshift I guess. It unlocks if you step down on the accellerator kind of hard, and if you step harder it will shift down to 3rd or 2nd if it's slow enough. It does drop down in rpm at closed throttle. I think it's normal.

Darren, wot ho buddy! Yes, your right about this site!!
I've just looked under my dash & seen what looks like a vac pipe with a white plunger on the end which, it seems, is not getting depressed when the brake pedal is back at its stop so I think this maybe the fault as it looks like it may open the vac lone when the plunger is all the way out! I'll try something on the pad to give the plunger something to press on. I'll keep you all posted, thanks for the help so far!
