Hey Hey Hey, Let's not lose sight of what we are trying to accomplish here. I just called them both up and Browns does offer a North America Warranty. They, without my asking, offered up the fact that they improve the 3/4 clutch pack. Now I feel confident I could increase the folding money in my wallet. But that's not really what this is about. It's about a fellow lover of an Astro Van getting the best bang for his buck. Good Luck with the repair. Jim

I just got off the horn with ATC (a co-facility), and they, too, offered me $1550, but the financing is the issue. My credit rating is soooooo bad (HOW BAD IS IT?) that if an identity thief stole my identity, he'd fix my credit rating out of pity. The other outfit offered 1/2 down w/balance in 90. THAT'S doable, considering that I'm due a refund of almost $200 from the state. The balance will come from the pittance that I receive every other week, aka, a paycheck.

Hey Mike, do a search on Craigslist. I see used transmissions for sale at real good prices. The independent rebuilders have come way down on their prices also. \:D/

Mike when I bought the LT,I bought it with a blow tranny.A tranny shop that I knew the owner for a number of yrs took on the job and charged me the rebuilt price of 800.00.So I got into the van for a purchase price of around $1,600 and that was what 4 or 5yrs ago. It's doable to get a very good rebuild at a decent price.

Yep, and on the advice of a respected mechanic, Brown's is NOT the place to go.

Did he also have a recommendation about AAMCO?

Go into the auto parts store and get your TV cable checked if you have a 700R4 and not a 4L60E. Mine stretched out and could cause odd shifting behaviors. Besides that you can always drain some ATF and throw some hy-gard/hy-tran in there or other J20C wet brake/viscious clutch hydraulic fluid and drive it for significantly longer. It was what I did on my last one before I rebuilt it.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I thought I would add this.
Seems you all have missed the most important part about trans shops.
Find out more info about the trans "builder",who is he/she,how long have they
been building for,get a chance to talk to them. When you phone a trans shop
90% of the time the person you are dealing with is the "service advisor",or owner in most cases & there job is to get you in the door & keep you there.
You can have the best "local" rep shop anywhere with a "good" name,
but the name is only as good as the builder.
