Armrest repair 96+

I decided to try one of the armrest repair sleeves. Pretty simple to install and looks pretty good. Just unbolt the pull handle, lay some silicone down, install the cover. That's it. I recommend clear silicone. I had a lot of white on hand so that is what I used.

Looks good to me. Is the cover soft like the original?

No it's not soft like the original. I replaced mine years ago and they've held up very well, not a single crack. My only complaint is WOW they cost a lot!. It can't cost that much to make 'em.

I agree. Very pricey. But it's the only thing available that I could find. And yes, it's molded plastic.

Call me the thread necromancer, but I had to bump this one up because it looks like lockdoc's fix is the "defacto" standard now. I was looking for OEM armrests or covers as mine have the typical wear problem, and came across these on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/331743059933?c ... 1743059933 and I thought "Man, those photos look familiar!"

Did a little searching and sure enough, those are the photos from lockdoc upthread...

nice, except I would use a quality adhesive rather than bathtub caulking.

A hard overlay ain't the same as a proper re-cover. As long as I've latches to get for my M11006, I'm researching the armrest dimensions for the cab doors, as I've a driver-side armrest rebuild in the near future, which means new open-cell foam of the proper spring rate to cut as well as new DuPont® Vinylite™ burlap-backed PVC in a suitable color to cut and sew.

I agree, Bret - the problem being that since the factory rest is basically one-piece with the rest of the interior door skin, it's no small job to recover the arm-rest portion.

Realistically, any recover that doesn't do the whole door is kind of an overlay anyhow! Personally, I just want to stop getting poked in the elbow by the cracked plastic bits.
