87 astro hood latch release cable assembly question

Has anyone know the whereabouts of such animal?
Does anyone know the years that may fit?

I need the whole cable assembly, under dash hardware/mount handle cable...everything but the latch itself. And I want new.
*sounds demanding*.
would one have to get what fits and splice the 87 astro correct handle on a generic cable??
or salvage yard??

Have you tried a dealer? If you want new parts I think that's your best bet. As far as what years may fit, I would be pretty sure that any year with the "hockey stick" style gauges and dash would probably be a direct fit. I would also guess that any year before they changed the face of the van (94?) would probably also fit although the handle might not be the same. Finding out which other years can interchange is an important question because you can bet that the dealer is going to tell you it's discontinued, but there may be one sitting on a shelf in some random dealer somewhere that they would love to get rid of.

You could get what you need from several different year vans at the junkyard. That way you would know what fits and what doesn't and you can go search for new parts from those years that worked for you.

exactly.
discontinued..

i tried looking around at other used 87s and no one seems to let the assembly go, all or nothing. van and cable or no cable. don't want a $700 cable.

dorman/motormite does not even have reference for it. (in my searches)

maybe i'll buy the book look up the number. i was on the net once and saw a site that had the year and i looked it up; generic picture keep in mind and cant seem to find it again.

thanks for the reply tho greatly appreciated..

maybe i'll have an eureka moment in the junk yard..
need good (and used) LT seats anyway..

There is the release cable according to GMpartsdirect.com. The cable from 1985 to 1994 will fit. I looked up a 1990. I did not find the release mech but only looked for a few minutes.

Replacement with a used cable assy is NOT recommended. The used assy may be stretched and may be doomed to an early failure.

I have a 92 and the cable was listed for just about all of the early 1st flight M-class. My cable actually snapped (fortunately AFTER opening the hood) and I drove around until payday with the hood on the safety latch only.

Take that part number down to your local GM dealer and ask them to show you if it's a cable, what it fits and a picture. Then go to gmpartsdirect.com and call to see if they have one.

If it's broken at the dash as mine was and after shaving doors, I pulled what was left of the cable and routed it down by the rad. You're going to be up there anyway after pulling dash release so why not have it up front to begin with ? Also allows me to pop the hood incase the battery goes south and I can't pop doors open.
