BABE Rally 2010

Post by ihatemybike »

Friday I leave on a 3500+ mile journey to provide support for the BABE Rally. This is a 5 day photo scavenger hunt taking the teams from New York (Big Apple) to New Orleans (Big Easy), with all teams competing in vehicles purchased for $500 or less. Grumpy was originally purchased to compete in this event, but due to team issues I've become an event marshal.

This might need to be moved, but I'm planning on camping in the back and mostly eating out of a cooler.

I'll have my netbook with me and will be posting updates each night.

Yesterday
I built a platform for the rear cargo area.

With the seats folded down there is a flat area big enough for me to sleep on.

Today
Lao Tzu said, "The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step." In my case, the journey of 3500 miles starts with the drive to work. Left home all packed this morning, work for 9 hours, then drive to my parents near Bloomington/Normal, IL.

ScanGaugeII says 23.7 miles @ 21.2 mpg.

Hmm. Is this a Pepsi & Doritos thread, beer & peanuts, or Makers Mark on the rocks? =D>

Dew and jerky by day, Fat Tire and peanuts by night. Makers Mark might be a bit pricey for this endeavor.

I was talking about for me while I'm reading this thread, but thanks; the Dew and jerky behind the wheel while making miles in loaded Green is a great visual.

Change that visual, this trip is all about Grumpy.

Grumpy did great. Marshaling had me busier than I thought, thus the lack of posts. I'll start posting the trip reports tonight.
