Fuel cell upgrade questions

Post by Mcfly Minis »

I gotta put a fuel cell in my customers van. Was wondering what pump you guys use, or what pressure is required. I'd like to use an external inline pump. Thanks in advance.

Well,,I can't help ya then. I run a 350 with a carb so we know that's not anywhere near what you need. I'll wait on one of these 4.3 guys to give you the correct pressure.
Good luck,,,like the build,,great work.

Pressure should be between 50 - 60 psi with about 55 psi at idle.

I use ACDelco/Delphi in tank pumps.

You're about to do what I've wondered for some time and that's why wouldn't you go to an inline electric pump when the old one goes out in the tank ? Seems alot easier and a time saver to me but no one has ever done this on ASV's that I know of.

The question that comes to my mind is what do you do about the strainer in the tank? Leave it out and put a filter between the tank and pump?

Steve,,when I swapped in the 350 in my van I decided to run a carb with a mechanical pump and just disconnected the wiring. After deciding to put the Vette rear in I found that I needed a smaller fuel tank so driveshaft would clear tank and connect up to a centered dif. I found an S-10 tank and before installing it I just pulled the pump out, installed an inline filter and a short pickup tube and that was that. Later I had to pull the tank to do some work and at that time I pulled the tank inline filter out and ran two near to the carb.

Use a Holley colored pump (blue/red/black) for carb depending on your needs. External Walbro or Bosch pump for standard power EFI or a Magnafuel if you're going to the races big time. Aeromotive has seemed to go down in quality as of late.
