Toyota Supra Motor in Astro Van...

Post by capulet_x »

For a while I've been trying to find out more information on this build...like has it ever been completed. Has anyone ever seen anything else like this, people pushing the envelope with these vans?

one of the members has a supercharged v8 in his van and runs about a 9 second quarter. It is tubbed out and caged and set up for wheelchair access. Another member had put a 502 big block in his van with about 5 inches of lift and 33inch tires.

I read about a guy that converted a Iveco 3.9 liter turbo diesel into a 1992 Astro. He had it drivable and was using it for awhile and then put it up for sale.

Oger checking in here and wanting to bring an old post some new life. I not new to the idea of really modding a GM mini van. I have allways liked the astro and safari style as the looked like a van not a blowen and streched up car. We all have been there done that with the v8 swaps and turbos tho very fun still I just needed something more. I have recently jumped in with both feet on my newest build. It involves a '99 safari, '80 k5 4x4 (RIP), '94 dodge 2500 (RIP), '78 4x4 F-350 camper spec. (RIP) '78 4x4 M1080 (RIP). Maybe the smell of whats cooken up is good... Bet you'll bite.. :usa:

I'm with you, buddy. I wish I had that F350 Dana 60 front end for under mine...so you know, the dana 60 rear from a ford van fits real nice in an Astro, pumpkin offset is just right.

Auto or stick?

That 1JZ swap looks totally awesome. He needs to throw a T70 on that thing and really get it cooking. Either that or get another stocker and build a custom manifold. That being said I'm in the process of swapping in a 305 that is going to get upgraded to twin grand national turbos eventually. The placement will be like 97turboastro's except instead of one on the driver's side only there will be one on both sides. The driver side is the hard place to put it in my opinion, no transmission linkage on the passenger side. If I get really uppity I have a pair of the HE351VGT Holsets here but no way to really control them which makes me leary.

OK, off the top of my head... (means I'm too lazy to research it)... that narrows it down to either a Cummins 6 or Dodge V-10 Swap... (I suppose a 5.7L V-8 might use this trans too, but why bother when a GM 5.7L is an easier swap.) Both engines are long, but I suspect the Cummins is longer. And the Cummins probably weighs twice what the V-10 weighs... So my guess will have to be an iron block V-10 out of the 94 you mentioned....

I know were their is a will their is a way. with the right skills and tools, wrong and twisted mindset anything can be made to work together. Hell I just met a guy doing something to a smart car to make it (cool) his words. And still yet a shop around here has an LS7 powered Saturn Sky.
