A Announcement.....Well maybe.

Post by 1Gary »

A announcement.Since my last statement from Social Security in June at the age of 63 I have been seriously considering retirement and researching how I might go about it and what that would mean.Basically it means if I take it now,it locks in the benefits I get for the rest of my life vs at 66 where the difference doesn't even cover the cost of living and I wouldn't have Medicaid until I was 65.Fro me to go three yrs without health insurance isn't a good idea. For me to semi retire it limits the amount I could make working part time. The way that works is if you go over the limit, you loose benefits at a rate of for every dollar you earned over, you have to pay back one dollar for every two you earned. It is pretty hash too. It's not a deduction from continuing benefits. They just stop the monthly benefits until you have paid back the amount you went over.I found out that to prevent that I could stop the benefits if I felt I was going to go over and then restart them once I was into a new yr.

Well it has been a 47 year trek in my working life doing any number of things. All along I have wanted to get back to my interest of my shut down business. So on Jan 3th I have set a meeting with Social Security to semi retire.Unless someone wags serious money in front of me,in the couple of weeks before the meeting,I'll be looking for part time work that will have health coverage.

So you might ask why tell us here??.This has been my home site for a long, long time.It is in my life a milestone and I wanted to share it with all of you.

While I am being emotional about all of this,I wanted to say, thank you all from the bottom of my heart for having me.

Gary

It's a big decision, I have a good friend at work who will be retiring next summer at the age of 57, I know that health benefits are a big concern for him and his wife, I could get out in 5 yrs when I am 51 but my kids will still be in school and so I will probably still work. Whatever way you go Gary good luck.

How about that............You are doing the right thing by researching every angle. It might help to consult a Social Security specialist. There's a lot they wont tell you. You have to find out the ins and outs by yourself. By the way........retirement does't mean you will lose your ASV family. All of us oldtimers will still be here. \:D/
