Oil Filler Tube - should I be worried?

Oil Filler Tube - should I be worried?

The bracket that holds the filler tube has broken. It broke right by the bolt that holds it down right behind the alternator.

Is this something I should be worried about?

A quick search on Rockauto did not list the assembly, anyone got a manual that might give me a part#?

Thoughts?

PS I have not posted in over a year, the van has been rolling along, but I am getting ready to fix some small things, so more posts coming!

i believe the filler neck is threaded in and i know on my old 6.0l there wasn't even a bracket for it so every time i changed my oil the whole neck would come out with the cap. its not like there is really anything under the hood that should ever hit or put pressure on it. maybe zip tie it to something if your real worried about it.

That is Gm part number 12560962. They have updated the bracket, because they all broke! I think it was about 10-11 bucks from www.shopgmparts.com plus shipping.

For $11 or so dollars, seems like that is something to order and put it in whenever I have the doghouse off next, does not sound like a rush job.

Yup, mine broke too. The neck is not threaded so this bracket is needed. Mine bracket was broke for some time and never did the tube actually pop out though. I ultimately fabbed up another from an exhaust hanger ( thick rubber part) …flexible.

Been fine ever since!

Mine broke and I took my wire feed welder over to the van and put a weld tack to the bracket and it is still holding two years later.

I might try a dab of JBWeld in the short term, or rig up an exhaust bracket of some sort.
