Re: Welcome back Peter
Oh definately a hotrod.
I'll have a better idea when I get it home, but I would like a big block in it.
I haven't seen to many of them hotrodded but this one looks pretty cool.

Peter-that is a sweet heart ride.Check out this site. There is tons of support and know how on it and I am sure they would like you as much you them.Kabey's Van wrote:A hybrid or electric van could be done, but what a lot of work. Lightening everything so as to compensate for the weight of the batteries would take a lot of forethought, or a lot of vans. Maybe a small reactor would work.
Out here on the Island we don't have AirCare so we can still build what we want.
Myself I prefer something with a bbc, and next weekend I am going to the L/M to pick up my next project.
It's a "complete" 1950 Thames van. It's in amazing shape, even the wood ribs and floor are still intacked. It comes with a 10 hp engine.
It's a done deal just have to go get it.

Funny you should say that, as this one and many other's have been repowered/customized with 4.3's.
I am just such a huge fan of chevy big blocks that it will be a sad day if I have to choose to use an engine other than a bbc.
It will be recieving a large bearing, 31 spline, Ford nodular 9" r/e that I have had kicking around for far too long. It's been cut to 50", I may have to get it cut again.
The G/F will be driving it so I will need to keep things from getting out of control, so to speak.

Re: Welcome back Peter
It's an 1172cc, side valve 4 cylinder with a three speed transmission.
The speedometer has a red line at the 30 mph mark. Can't imagine why. :-k
Parts and information won't be a problem Gary. Not only has the owner of this van been rebuilding these vans and pickups for years, he was involved in the restoration of one of these vans that had been converted into a canteen van during WWII.
Four hundred and fifty of these vans were donated by Henry Ford to help keep up moral of UK citizens during WWII. These vans would go into the bombed out neighborhoods and serve tea and meals to the survivors of the night time bombing raids.
That van he rebuilt now sits on display in the Canadian War Museum. http://www.civilization.ca/cwm/general- ... 2010-march
He has all kinds of parts and if there is something I don't have, he will gladly ship it over to me.
It's like buying from a dealership.

Took me a little while to find it but if your talking about Old Coyote's Anglia, then that's quite a different vehicle all together.

Re: Welcome back Peter
There is a whole market on EV conversions. Some guy years ago converted his cherokee to an EV using nothing but off the shelf components. This is something I'd already planned out to try someday. Just can't seem to find the time or cash to do it.

Re: Welcome back Peter
I live in a place that includes the electric. Is the charge to a EV car and the amount of miles you get that much cheaper than a gas engine??.Sounds like what I guess it is a dumb question.

TB-OK that's cool then.
Peter-I know about the project you spoke about, but I am pretty sure there is one for a Thames too that is a on going project as well. That site has a lot of hot rod stuff going on all the time.I think it was Darren who yrs ago turned me onto that site.Three major engine builders on there too is the part I enjoy.
