New to board. New to Us 2003 AWD Majestic Converstion

Post by overdrive75 »

Well, we added the first kid to our family last Feb (2010) and the wifes Jeep Cherokee was not cutting it. My 2500HD 4x4 was more then she wanted to drive around and the extended cab doors where a pain. We didn't want just a standard minivan, but the SUV of mini-vans AWD ASTRO or Safari it was. I wanted an '03 or newer for the up-sized axles and brakes. Also a converions package was a must. After 3 months of looking we found our's with 79,000 miles last November. This is a great site, with the info here I just completed a full tune up today.

Welcome to the Board.

You where right on by looking for an 03-05. We have an 03 AWD and love it. a couple things to watch out for. The rear break brackets may rust and cause the caliper to hang up causing uneven and premature break pad failure. Also change the Transfer case fluid every 30K Miles or you will get a shimmy feeling.

We got the van for what seemed a fair price, $8K out the door. I found it on a used car lot, I hate buying that way, but we had been searching for a while and my wife really like this one. It was missing the running boards when we bought it but Majestic was just up the road and was able to get a new set paint them and install them for a good price. All in all we have less then $9K into it, according to however the bank looked it up it I could have borowed up to $13K against it seem high to me, but whatever, so all and all we did good I think.
