Blower switch/motor ?

Post by Harri »

Since my '96 won't blow on highest speed position, I figured that either switch or motor is broken, so here's the Q whitch one brakes more obviously? And where are the screws that holds dash on it's place, since my rear speakers won't let that noice we call music throught them. Guy I bought my Safari told that they put new radio on it and maybe they forget something :dunce:

Must do some signature here

Your blower problem is likely the resistor. I had to replace mine (also a '96) for the same reason. On the speaker problem....are you sure there are speakers in the rear? My Safari didn't have them.

leave the rear speakers disconnected and turn the fader up to the front of the van. the rear speakers in my van ('97) are pure junk. I can't even hear the rear speakers in my van unless I turn the fader all the way to the back and the sound coming out of them isnt very good- its very distorted and makes alot of weird noises.
as for the dash- there are no screws that hold the dash bezel on (the part that surrounds the gauges, radio, climate control)
here are the factory instructions for removing the dash bezel (1997 factory service manual). you do not need to disconnect the battery or set the parking brake when shifting into first gear. you can just hold the brake pedal down while shifting into 1st gear.

If your blower (HVAC) won't blow on high, the problem is the HIGH SPEED RELAY, located on the engine side of the firewall, near the blower motor. Replace it and hang on to your hat.

the relay is usually on the passenger side of the engine bay, mounted to the firewall above the blower motor housing. There may be two of them, one is for the A/C the other is for the fuel pump (IIRC)

IIRC the 2nd Gen heater blower relay is built into the resistor assy.

OK, thanks! Just need to take another dive :peep:

Edit after diving:
There are couple relays in fusebox AC, IGN, STARTER and little smaller AC ENABLE RELAY AND FUEL PUMP RELAY
Any of them ?

Woohoo, that was easiest ever. I opened that resistor packet, check it out and put back...and blower runs great all three speeds :bounce: . Second problem, any ideas where I should start to seek vacuum leak? Those dash nozzles blow soo little that there must be a leak. Under seats, sidewindows and windshield blows great.
