Trailer wiring

I don't think my 87 has a towing package, but it does have a hitch mount. I just picked up a ball and a wiring kit to hook it up.

would it be possible that there is already a trailer wiring harness in the van that I could tap into? I thought that I heard somewhere that I could find it in area by the jack?

If not, how would you suggest tappig in to the wiring to add the harness for the trailer?

Dow, they are usually tucked in the jack compartment, but check the other side just in case, thats where I found mine. If it does not have the trailer wiring check this Trailer wiring link for info on how to do it.

How many wire plug are you using? If it's just a 4 pin flat, all the wires should be there. If you are going to the standard 7 pin RV plug, you may need to add the aux battery charge as well as the brake controller wire.

i'm just going to be using a 4 pin flat style connector. I'm only going to be pulling a small utility trailer, and not doing that very often.

I'll eventually have to wire up my 92 as well.
