Vibes

Post by spug »

Just finished my 2" lift on 2000 2wd Astro with shackles in the rear and am getting some vibrations from the shaft. Have any of you guys had to shim it with just 2 inches? If so, what shims did you get? I still have to check my u-joints and stuff also but I got a funny feeling that aint it. Thanks!

Yes, I had that problem when I did the 2" lift. I added 4 degree shims and solved it. You can get those from Overland Vans and pay double ($40), or get them from someplace like 4WheelParts for like $15. They are pretty easy to install, just make sure they're facing the right direction.

I am surprised that you got a vibration with a 2 inch lift, I would wonder it the u-joint at the rear is at the end of its service life. A local shop in my area doesn't use metal wedges but cuts strips of hard rubber to different lengths and builds up a plastic / rubber wedge, when it is torqued down it looks surprisingly flat-tapered, I am somewhat guessing but I would think they cut 4 to 6 strips of different lengths about 1/2 diffferent and overlay them. sounds mickey mouse but seems to last. $40 each?,,,
