Just saw refinery explode from a distance
Was getting ready to take the kiddo out into the backyard and saw BP Cherry Point refinery explode.
As a crow flies it's probably...10 miles or more from the house. (It's on the water at sea level and i'm at 700' elevation on Toledo Hill in Bellingham).
Lots of orange flame, and tons of smoke. That far away, the flames must have been 200' high.
Called my BiL to make sure he was not servicing anything out there as he is there often and he said no, he is not there.
Wow.

As if gas prices were not already on the rise. I hope no one was injured.

Nice pic, TLess, man you're fast.
Apparently, the fire is out, no one was hurt at first glance, but they are still doing roll call.
This happenned just as i was listenning on the radio that BP 's spill in the Gulf was going to cost them $70Billion by the time it's all said and done.

Re: Just saw the BP refinery explode from a distance
Thanks, Zammer.
I moved here from Michigan in the summer of '98. Since then, Whatcom Creek blew up and caught fire and killed three kids fishing in the creek, from a gas pipeline leaking into the creek. It's less than a mile from where I live, now. The Tesoro refinery just down the road about 40 minutes in Anacortes blew up and killed half a dozen people, and now this. Hmm.
