Well another sad day

Post by 1Gary »

I got the news today that I have been declared fully disabled today. It takes 5 months to get payments and I was found disabled back in Dec of 2011. Particle payments for June/July will be sent at the end of Aug. It's good news and bad at the same time. The good news is the horror stories for me now will end and my basic living is covered, but the bad news it limits my activities until maybe I get my business back up and running. I am not sure what I am going to do with this now.Lately I have "tried" working a job and I am having a really tough time keeping up. I can work P/T and still be disabled and I have to see if the place I am at will accommodate me for that. The journey of working the for the last 58 yrs is over is appealing, but the idea of it being because of my physical condition I am having a hard time accepting.

I thought you had already retired from Lowes? :poke: Of course I am only picking. I didn't realize you had gone back to work. Maybe what you need to do is sell off everything and move someplace sunny and warm! Find a place that isn't so expensive like New York and where heating bills won't kill you!

Dean-I am doing ok on the heating bills. It's included in the rent.I got a 10k house kerosene heater for the rm where the computer is. It's the cold that tears me up making the health issues worst. Honestly, the thing that is keeping me here is the deal I got on the shop. That would be hard to match anywhere else. And it took me three yrs to find that. I'll stay the course one more winter see what I can get done this winter. Ole Yellar and all the rest. I knew as aggressive a game plan for the do over on this business,it was going to take time.

Time to give up on the wallet breaking & back breaking projects Gary !!! its time to consider your health & what your going to do with the rest of your years .Keep 1 van to travel with & get yourself into a warmer climate & take care of yourself . what are ya gonna do ... build a couple vans that will cost ya dearly to build & then pass them on to someone else cuz ya damn near killed yourself building them so now ya can't enjoy them ??? time to do some rethinking G ...

Take it easy & take care of your health ya stubborn old coot :muhaha:

All I can say is wow!!. Thanks for your concerns Dan. I do think I am more in tune with my body now than ever. If I am hurting somewhere it makes me think about why or what part is giving me trouble. I've gone through a learning curve about the medical field and how it works. It seems for unexplained symptoms that I have at my age,vs being say 20 yrs old where they would be looking for a cure, they want to mask those symptoms with medications never finding out why. I have gone through the system of seeing a primary doctor to the reference to a specialty doctor to the tests to going back to find the results of the tests to going back to the primary doctor. That can and often does take a month to unravel. And I got a list of specialty doctors that would choke a horse. Bottom line is whatever it is,is what it is going to be no matter what I do.

Way back when I started all the projects, the plan for my retirement in my later yrs was and is the business I want to start back up. All the eggs are in that basket so to speak. Really no other choices. I do know getting back to working on those projects will be something I will enjoy. The distractions of summer and hanging out with my beach buddies is coming to a end,so the time spent in the shop is something I am looking forward to. Maybe even a visit from Dean and Ben while they are down here during snow shoe racing season.

Well that's about all Dan. Thanks for the posting and one of these days I am going to go down the 90 and hunt you down for a meet. Now it seems all I will have on my hands is time.

Gary, I feel for you. I'm in the same boat, but the Hospital was the hold up in my case. I'm still waiting on our friends in Washington to get off their keisters, but, as you pointed out, that's an arduous process.

I'm surprised that you got approved.
I always thought that now days about the only way you can get on disability is to be
either an Illegal alien, Totally nuts or an Alcoholic/Drug addict.
Anybody that has worked for a living and is actually disabled usually has to appeal a half dozen times and even then will probably not get it.
Still Kickin...

Well as of 09/01 I am a card carrying medicare semi retired person. I turn 65 yrs old in afew days. The coverage is complicated. The company for prescriptions sent me a booklet that is no less than 12" thick. Now I don't have the time or ambition to go back to school to become a lawyer to understand what the hell they cover. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
