no reverse or park

Writing from my phone at work, here's the story. Got in truck this morning and backed out of driveway like normal got to work and parked parked and I couldn't shift past neutral. Brake lights are working fine and keys are locked in ignition cylinder. I have a feeling I already know what the prolem is but this rain snow mess is going to make this a one shot deal. Any suggestions on what it can be? Is there anything I can short to get it into park at least?

First I'd get underneath and check the cable and lever on the trans to see if they are F'ed up somehow.

got in van after work started and shifted fine..... drove it to my old work to grab the part and check out the problem and my transmission was totally surrounded by ice and snow. i couldn't even see the shift linkage i guess i just found the down side to the skid plate. I'm keeping the part in the truck and going to keep driving :-k
