98 Safari still not starting. Possible fuel issue???
Ok I am getting 60 psi of fuel pressure at schrader valve and it holds. Is it possible to have enough pressure but not enough volume to allow it not to start?
Originally this thing was not even sputtering or trying to start. I have been all over, no codes of importance. New distributor, cap and rotor. Appears to be good nice blue spark at plugs. New crank position sensor and even drained my fuel tank suspecting bad fuel. After all that it will try to start and then nothing. I have bled new fuel up to the rail and all it does is seem to want to start and then nothing just crank. I hate to think it might be a injection spider issue or timing chain jumped or somthing like that?

It could very well be the spider. Hopefully you can just individually apply 12V to the poppet valves to see if they work.

If it holds 60 psi at the rail, you have enough volume. I don't have anything else for you from my end. Seems you have checked everything I would.

Re: 98 Safari still not starting. Possible fuel issue???
fuel in the rail, at pressure, no fuel in the combustion chamber - sounds like the injectors are not injecting.
Have you checked to see if voltage is being supplied to the injectors, and also if they have a good enough ground to complete a circut, so that they will inject?

Going to check out injection system tomorrow. After all I have done it appears that my plugs are dry after start attempts. So it could very well be that. I did verify timing is correct.
Thank you

98 Safari still not starting. Possible fuel issue??? Cont..
Ok so my fuel pressure does not hold, how quick should it blled down and how much? When ignition is turned pressure will jump to 60 psi and after pump shuts off the pressure fall about 4 psi. In fifteen minutes pressure will fall approx. 30 psi. Could this be what is causing my starting issue?

Take a look at http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/gm/4.3 ... uel-pump-1
From what I understand you need in the mid-50's psi to fire.

Hope this is of some level of help

Falling pressure doesn't necessarily mean anything. All you really want is to have about 52 psi while cranking the engine over to start. If it gets below 50 psi, there is a good chance the pump is bad.
Falling pressure means 1 of 3 things: 1. the check valve in the pump is bad and it is draining back to tank, 2. there is an external leak where you would see the gas on the ground, 3 there is a leaking injector in which it would act like it's flooding.

Re: 98 Safari still not starting. Possible fuel issue??? Con
Ok so here's what I have determined. It will maintain above 60 psi and fluctuate 2-4 psi while cranking. So I am to assume fuel pump is good and injection spider should be good? It will not fire over while spraying carb cleaner into throttle body. I have spark but I wonder if coil is weak. How far should the spark from coli lead be able to jump to a good ground?

Your fuel pressure is good. That is good news! Since you spray carb cleaner into it and it still doesn't fire, I would say you have very weak spark. If the cap and rotor contacts are clean and the coil to distributor cap is good and not grounding out on the tranny dipstick tube, I would suspect a coil or ignition module.

Well I figured it out. Installed another coil and she fired up first turn of the key. Thanks to all that posted.
