Bravado tranny in Safari won't shift.
I just had a Used Bravado AWD tranny installed in my 97 Safari AWD & it only goes into 2nd or 3rd, and only those gears manually. Tranny shifted correctly before removed from the Bravado, I was told. Anyone know if some electronics could be hooked up wrong, or what else could be causing this problem? Tranny has new fluid & filter. Love my van but have limited funds. Help.............

What year Bravado? Was it the same type transmission? I'm just curious. Sounds like the transmission is in limp mode. May need a scanner able to scan transmission to see or clear codes. Not enough info to determine.

Re: Bravado tranny in Safari won't shift.
Thanks for your reply to my plea for help. I Looked at receipt for Bravado tranny & no year model was on it, just quite a few numbers. I'm no mechanic, & I'm at my trailer in Silver Cliff, Colorado for the summer, so I called my mechanic of many years in TX who told me to go to a transmission shop & get the codes straightened out. Much the same as you told me. Closest tranny shop is about 70 miles away & I guess I could drive it there in 3rd gear at 55 mph w/o hurting anything.
This van is worth saving & everything was working when I bought it for $350. except tranny, driver door window & fuel gauge. I mean it has cold air, power everything works but driver window, straight body, good paint, good 4 year old tires & good interior. Dirty, but we have it mostly shampooed & cleaned. I'm old & get pleasure from saving old trucks. Bout all I can do anymore. Astro/Safari AWD are the most practical vehicles on the road for me & I sure do appreciate this forum with all the help that's available from guys like you. Won't be long & I plan to lift this Safari about 5" so I can take it up on our property at 9500 feet. Thanks again.
