I need a picture taken Please help.

Post by Fishfreek »

I need a picture taken of the rear open of a 1999 Astro. Mine is leaking when it rains and in Florida that is alot. But I cannot find anyone that sells a gasket that seals that area. There is one that goes across the top of the opening and everyone has that.

I would like someone to take a picture of that area to either prove there is a gasket that belongs there or not.

Thanks for the help

My drip molding is also leaking.

Here is the detail of the part, it is #1: http://www.genmotorinfo.com/Picture.asp ... 17TM16-462

Here is the key: http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/Page_Produc ... SortBy=Key

They have one for $40.00. They are the same for both types of doors. You will have to drill out the old rivets, then use adhesive GM 12345096 or equivalent and rivet the part back on.

Drummer,

Thanks for the links. But that information leaves me a little confused. When I bought the van it had a gasket on it that went all the way around the back opening of the van that the doors closed against but the links show only the drip gasket at the top that the lift hatch closes against.

( I wonder where my gasket came from ) It fits properly like it was made for the van. It is a little torn but I put it back on this morning and it didn't leak a drop during today's very hard rain.

The rest of the weather stripping, #2, is here:

http://www.genmotorinfo.com/Picture.asp ... 03TM16-434

Here is the key:

http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/Page_Produc ... upplGroup=

The drip molding is on all van doors. This weather strip is for liftgate only. I found that my weather strip was good. The drip molding was leaking allowing water to drip inside the weather strip and into the back of the van. My solution right now is to park on a slight incline making sure the back of the van is lower than the front. This works for me until I can get to the drip molding.

I noticed the upper gasket has a groove that acts as a gutter, and channels the water, so that it is directed to the sides of the van, and water flows around the door openings. That groove also catches the muck (dirt, leaves, pine needles, etc.) and the water will pool up and flood over, much like a clogged gutter on a house. Maybe check to make sure the 'gutter' is clean. I discovered a leak inside when I purchased my van 3 years ago, I cleaned the 'gutter' and it has not leaked since. Hope that helps.
