Vancouver Island 2013

Post by T.Low »

My buddy in his e350 Sortsmobile headed out with me in the AstroLander to explore Vancouver Island for a few days.

from the ferry;

Mama bear ran across in front of us, then we saw the cub up the tree scouting the area.

We cruised thru a beautiful little town , which happens to be where ASV member douyoulikeithere lives. wow, what a cool little spot. we stopped at the A&W for a quick dinner.

After a few wrong turns, i finally found the trailhead that lead to the back side beach to Francis Lake, Camp Spot #1

The tight easy 4x4 trail crossed a couple creeks and went down a dry creek bed before openning up to an amazing moonlit rocky beach. A perfect way to end the day.

Morning fog greets us to start day 2.

Image

The fog burns off and we spend the morning eating breakfast, drinking coffee and exploring the area by foot.

Brian wants to head up the steep logging road in the distance to get a picture of the camp. We head out.

You can see the beach at the far end of the lake.

Are Mom and the kids with you? I'll be up your way after "Fiesta" this year. Around the middle of October.

No, Skip, Jen and the kids were with her side of the family for a week. She's known how much I've wanted to explore more of Vancouver Island, so she suggested that would be a good time to go.

Hope to see you this trip. Maybe even at Matty's place.

Looks like a fun trip Tom. That's an area I'd like to explore one day.

Wow Tom.
Looks like you had a fantastic trip.
There some really steep countryside and clean fresh water here eh?
There is so much here to explore.
My van was in pieces at the time or I would have liked to go a ways with y'all.
Come back again, and come visit me next time, Lol...
Your friends Ford is a lot like one that I see around here that does chartered Back country tours.
His is also a diesel E350 but its just mostly seats and no pop top, and has a weird looking exhaust stack that runs up the back corner to smoke out from the top like a rig or whatever...
